Butter Cream Frosted Cake Care

A cake made with butter cream frosting and butter cream filling can be kept out of the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. It is advised to keep it covered with a cake cover or in the box it was delivered in to keep it safe from dirt and insects, etc.

However, be advised if it is really hot, the frosting can get very soft with the possibility for certain decorations to slide off.

  • Do not keep outside in direct sunlight on a very hot day.
  • Do not keep the cake next to any hot heat source like a cooking stove or a coffee pot while in use.
  • Don’t keep it by a home heating type vent when in use in the winter.
  • Do not keep your cake in a hot vehicle for any length of time for example, this will ruin the cake and the frosting will most likely fall off of the cake. Keep the air conditioner on while transporting the cake and keep it out of direct sun light as much as possible.

What can I do to help keep my cake in good condition?

If possible cover the cake with a cake cover or keep it in the box it was delivered in.

In the summer months or in a very warm environment, keep the cake in a cool location where there is an air conditioner or a refrigerator. Keep the cake out of the direct air flow of an air conditioner and likewise, out of the direct airflow of a heater in the winter.

When you keep the cake in the refrigerator, keep it in the box it was delivered in until it is close to the time to serve.  Remove the cake from the refrigerator about an hour before serving.  Let it sit at room temperature and then if you need to, take it outside to display and cut.  But, once again don’t let too much time go by before cutting and serving out in the heat.

When displaying and serving your cake inside, things are a lot more flexible.  🙂
